Windows 7

After a long night, finally Windows 7! Finally a chance to move on and away from XP (and to be able to dodge Vista, too).

Ironically, the actual install took only like 30 minutes. The majority of the night was wasted trying load a corrupted iso (thanks to Patricia… ) first into a USB drive (which didn’t go well because it required IMAPI v2.0 installed, which I mysteriously did not have, and could not get cause my XP failed WGA), and then into a DVD (which also took a lot of time because I had to scour the nets for freeware DVD burners because I was too lazy to dig out the software that come with my drive, but all of them didn’t work anyway) only to realize both methods didn’t work. So I had to get Pat’s help to get access into MSDN (the joys and perks of university life) and download the iso again. After which I stubbornly still tried to do it via the USB way (cause it was ‘cooler’), by invoking some LogMeIn magic, but in the end still didn’t work (what the hell is BootSect.exe?!), so finally I dug out my trusty Nero that came with the DVD drive, burned the bloody thing and installed it.

Phew!

The install itself was fair quick. And quite. Too quite for a Windows thing. It only prompted me like 5 times for input. Kudos to Windows for that!

First impressions are somewhat lacking. One does not need to look too deep to see the remnants of the old XP/2000 stuff coated with some flashy interface. And the interface is not really that spectacular too. It’s just too messy and loud and unorganized. Can’t wait for the day when someone finds a way to crack some skinning functionality into 7.
